Chemistry at the Farmers Market

Orange County, CA
July 10 and September 25, 2021

Led by the Orange County YCC, a group of young chemists, including graduate, undergraduate and high school students, designed, organized and performed a live demonstration of chemistry experiments to a wide range of lay adults and children at the Orange Home Grown Farmers & Artisans Market in July 2021. It was so well received that they put on another show in September.

This was the first time that OCACS had held an event at the extremely popular Farmers’ Market. No entrance fee was charged, and being open to all members of the community, the event attracted people of all backgrounds and ages. A estimated total of 200 people attended the two events. The audience reported that it was the highlight of their visit to the Market that day.

The program comprised 4 new demonstrations like Storm Clouds and Elephant Toothpaste, which impressed the crowd with their special effects, and one hands-on activity (Slime) for K-8 children.

Publicity included Instagram, two Twitter accounts, the Section website, a flyer, multiple posts on the Farmers’ Market own instagram feed which has > 15K followers.
