The theme was: Nanotechnology: The Smallest BIG Idea in Chemistry

It was a fun day of day of hands-on science experiments for kids in one of the zoo's open areas. Our NCW program took place on a beautiful fall day. We offered a smorgasbord of hands-on chemistry experiments for kids in one of the zoo's open areas. More than 200 volunteers from 12 university/college groups participated this year, with each group offering a different set of experiments. These ranged from "Chromatography, Colloids, and Diffusion" and "Superhydrophobic surfaces" to "Nanosmores & the Meissner Effect" and "Ferrofluids".

It must be said that the college students helping the children with experiments had as much fun as the little kids - a great role modeling experience for both groups!

Rudy Gonzales put on his Radical Science Show again, which had an attendance of nearly 300 people.

We were able to continue our program of free zoo admission to families of Santa Ana and Tustin in 2012. There were 2510 attendees of whom 1505 qualified for free admission.
