In 2018, Edward Jin of Arnold O. Beckman High School, Irvine, and Anton Ni of University High School, Irvine, competed for one of four spots on the team representing the U.S. at the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (

Emerging from a series of exams that involved nearly 17,000 students across America, Edward and Anton were among the 20 students selected to attend the Chemistry Olympiad Study Camp at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, June 10-25. During the camp, they received college-level training with a series of lectures, problem-solving exercises, lab work, and testing. At the conclusion of the camp, the top four students and two alternates make the team. The four-member team traveled to Bratislava, Slovakia, and Prague in the Czech Republic, July 19-29, where they competed with their peers from more than 70 nations for gold, silver and bronze medals.
Edward Jin succeeded in becoming an alternate member of the US team. For additional information, see:
