Committee on Minority Affairs: Best Overall Local Section

The Orange County Local Section holds a yearly “National Chemistry Week Zoo�. This year 2,500 people participated in the event with two-thirds of the participants being underrepresented minorities. The event not only helped introduce the concept that “Science is Fun�, but also allowed families who could not afford to pay by offering free admission.

Outstanding NCW Event for a Specific Audience

The Orange County local section, along with 12 different area college/university groups conducted hands-on science activities at the Santa Ana zoo for more than 2300 attendees; more than 1000 of which were children.
